History of Thailand, A Strong Nation

Thailand History dates back to Paleolithic era. All along its past, it has emerged to become one of the leading cultural and economic centers in Southeast Asia. The story of fascinating country, Thailand is filled with religious disagreements, bloody revolution, rich tradition and other complications. Though there was high turbulence, Thailand is regarded as a popular tourists' destination and has achieved a strong political and economic position at the global level.
Thailand is also known as Sukothai. It was originally known as Buddhist religious territory and the area was divided into several kingdoms such as Lanna, Lan Chang, and Sukhothai. There is no doubt that modern Thailand emerged from the complex geographical-political origin with Bangkok as its capital and King Rama, the great, first created Chakri dynasty. During this period the history of Thailand got the name of early Modernity or Enlightenment by some historians.

At this time, major powers such as Britain and France were regularly trying their best to colonize countries in an effort to develop strong empire, but however, Thailand managed to escape from the control of these external powers. As there were very strong rulers, so it managed to preserve its independence and hence, its identity was maintained throughout the aggressive colonization. By this time, all the neighboring countries were absorbed in the influence of western civilization.

The twentieth century brought upheaval for Thailand as all the surrounding people and world class events laid their impact on the country's economy. In the early part of this century, new constitutional monarchial government was established which gave a new identity to Thailand government structure and changed the face of the country dramatically. The group of young and educated with the concept of western democracy demanded a change from absolute to constitutional monarchy and transferred the power to the constitution based system of government.

Asian Financial Crisis, which took place in 21st century was the last event and laid the notable impact on the country's economy. At present, Thailand is one of the strong countries to follow the future course. Though there were financial crises in last year, the country is still occupying leading position in economic, financial and political screen.

Have You Considered Retiring in Thailand?

If you are starting to wonder about where you could retire to, the chances are that Thailand has not been one of your first choices. However, the people who have retired to Thailand really do love the way of life there and it may well be worth thinking about it once you have done a little research.

What to Expect From Retiring in Thailand

Thailand is well known for its fantastic weather and it is certainly somewhere that you should consider if you want to experience a warm winter. Also, one of the main reasons why people do choose to retire to Thailand is the fact that there is not as much crime there as there is in some Western countries. In fact Thailand is known to be one of the safest countries in the world and attacks on strangers is extremely low and that allows you to feel safer than you would in a country such as the UK or in America.

If you are on a slight budget then there will always be something to suit your needs in Thailand. All you have to do is look away from the tourist driven places and you will find that the prices of accommodation and living is a lot lower than it is in built up areas.

Another good factor about the cost of living in Thailand is the medical care. The treatments and the facilities are extremely modern, yet they are also really inexpensive too. This means that you will easily be able to afford any health care which you may need and it is just as good as it would be back home.

If you are thinking of retiring to Thailand then one thing you will need to think about is what you
would like to spend your time doing. There are a number of activities available to you and it basically depends upon how active you want to be. For example you can take part in scuba diving or if you would still like to feel like you are working then you can apply to become a volunteer teacher. You can also just relax and enjoy cultural activities if you would prefer.

Overall retiring in Thailand is definitely something you should consider. The cost of living there is extremely low and it is one of the safest places in the world. With no cold weather to worry even in winter, about what more could you possibly ask for?

Shopping in Thailand

My holiday to Thailand was truly an amazing experience. Among the many countless other joys and wonders, Thailand was a great place to shop and Bangkok in particular, where the variety of retail outlets and goods is surprising. I could find genuine name-brand products on sale in department stores for half as much as back home. Even more there are bargains in more down-to-earth places in form of open market stalls that leave you awestruck.

With the excellent exchange rates, and amazing discounts, I could find everything that I wanted and that too at exceptional prices. From sophisticated air-conditioned shopping malls to sweaty markets under canvas, to roadside vendors. There’s so much, that one can literally shop till one drops. Thailand is recognized as one of the world's leading gems and jewelry centers and I shopped for some great collection of jewelry. Bangkok's Chinatown or the nearby Ban Mo Jewelry Street should be checked out for exquisite jewelry.

Bangkok is the capital of shopping malls, open - air markets, road - side vendors, charming side street antique shops and art galleries. And best of all, Thai handicrafts, the most famous of which is Thai silk. Markets sprawl the streets, even the rivers, of every town in Thailand, so I was never far away from a good buy. A visit to the floating market at Damnoen Saduak, just outside of Bangkok was an unusual experience and I returned with designer clothes, jewelry, pirated DVDs and CDs to tacky, but essential, souvenirs.

It was really obvious now why Thailand is famous as being a great destination for the serious shopper. Whatever you are looking for, there’s bound to be an outlet in Thailand. For more information on this pls. visit: http://www.stayresthailand.com/shopping-in-thailand.html

Visit Thailand

Thailand, formerly known as Siam, is a country of southeast Asia on the Gulf of Thailand (formerly the Gulf of Siam), an arm of the South China Sea. Bangkok is the capital and the largest city. Population: 59,396,000. Standard Thai is the national and official language of Thailand and the mother tongue of the Thai people, Thailand's dominant ethnic group. Thai comes from the Tai group of the Tai-Kadai language family. The Tai-Kadai languages are thought to have originated in southern China. It is a tonal and analytic language. The combination of tonality, a complex orthography, relational markers and a distinctive phonology can make Thai difficult to learn for those who do not already speak a related language. In addition to Standard Thai also known as Central Thai or Siamese, which is the official language of Thailand, it is home to other related Tai languages and many of these languages are spoken by larger numbers outside of Thailand. Most speakers of dialects and minority languages speak Standard Thai as well, since it is the language used in schools and universities all across the kingdom.

Standard Thai is composed of several distinct forms for different social contexts. Street Thai, which is informal and without polite terms of address. Elegant Thai, which is the official and written version, and includes respectful terms of address. Rhetorical Thai which is used for public speaking. Religious Thai which is heavily influenced by Sanskrit and Pāli used when discussing Buddhism or addressing monks. Royal Thai which is used when addressing members of the royal family.

Agriculture In Thailand

Agriculture is considered as the backbone of a country. It plays an important role in generating national income, in solving unemployment problem in rural areas, and in maintaining equilibrium in domestic food supply. Rice is the main staple in Thailand. Thai farmers concentrate more on paddy fields and it was one of their main export products.

Rice is mostly grown in central regions of Thailand. Thai farmers work throughout the year, and after the annual harvest season, they plan for the second cultivation or sometimes they concentrate on raising animals or fish. Thailand is popular for its vast fertile land and ample supply of water. It is said to have the most fertile lands in Asia. Thailand is also referred to as the “Rice Bowl”. Farmers used to rear fish and grow paddy simultaneously; as a result they used to have a continuous supply of fresh fish and rice to live on.

Today the farmers in Thailand face a number of problems as the Thai government promoted high input, export orientated agricultural systems to increase the country’s growth rate. This growth policy has resulted in retardation of the country’s agricultural sector. Poor farm management techniques and inappropriate use of agrochemicals has resulted in soil erosion and soil exhaustion, further damaging the agriculture sector.

Another serious problem in Thailand is the increase in death and illness among farmers due to pesticides. This is mainly due to the lack of knowledge with regards to agrochemical application and safety procedures. In 1988 the number of people reported to be suffering from pesticide poisoning was 4,234, while the number of deaths from pesticide poisoning was 34.

The Thai government is finally awakening to reality and it is about time that the government took an initiative to help the ailing agriculture sector otherwise Thailand may lose the title of “Rice bowl”.

The Thai Hospitality

Thailand is known as “Land Of Smiles”, an impression the Tourism Authority of Thailand happily use to promote the tourism by focusing on its people’s hospitality. And if you spend any amount of time in most parts of Thailand, you will understand why this slogan has stuck for so long. Even in the buzzing capital city of Bangkok where people usually mind their own businesses, you can smile at a Thai and you can almost guarantee to get a smile back.
A lot of visitors consider this to be quite fascinating, considering the low incomes, polluted air, bad traffic and such, giving Thai people very little to smile about. Yet they still manage to be so happy-looking, friendly and willing to show you the true meaning of hospitality. Often, you don’t understand a word they’re saying to you but you will see a glow in their eyes and a willing smile as a sign of their friendliness.
It’s not just for the stunning nature and historical richness that so many people come to love Thailand. It’s often the hospitality, the friendly people, their fascinating culture and the contagious ‘Thai smile’ that makes visitors want to repeat their visit time and time again.

People in Thailand

The modern Nation of Thailand is a multicultural society. The predominant Thai culture, identity and civilization emerged as a by product of the interaction of the indigenous population with Tai and other immigrant peoples [ including Chinese and Indian ]. When people call themselves '' Thai '' they mean they are in the political sense, subjects of the Thailand nation. If explored further the word has a cultural and, for many, a linguistic sense. However not all Thailand citizens speak Thai and of those who do so it is a second language for them. This Thai identity in its present form is relatively recent.
The first inhabitants are described in the Prehistory link. After prehistoric times there were the Mon, the Khmer and other Austro-Asiatic tribes such as the Lawa, H' tin, etc. Their defining moments are up until 1300 and the arrival of the Tai tribes. The Khmer who established the Kingdom of Chenla and Angkor are described in East Thailand People although Khmer influence was significant elsewhere as well.
The Austro-Asiatic speakers including the Mon are considered in North Thailand People and Central Thailand People regions. The Mon had separate kingdoms in each region. The other Austro-Asiatic speaking tribes are considered but these were less significant. In North Thailand People we describe the smaller groups of Austro-Asiatic speakers such as the Lawa, H' tin and other hunters and gathers of that region.
The Tai tribes [of which we identify 30 groups] are considered in the regions of Central Thailand, North Thailand, South or Southern Thailand and North East Thailand. These regions are relevant in that ethnic diversity is also varied through out the regions of Thailand. Modern Thailand is a modern political Nation now comprising what were historically numerous ethnic cultures and Kingdoms. The ethnic characteristics, belief systems, languages and lifestyles of each of all the tribes are compared also within these links. As between the Tai tribes the points of comparison are language and script, culture and art and architecture style. As between all the other ethnic tribes the points of comparison are language groups, monogamous and polygamous cultures, animist and non animist beliefs, ancestor worship or not, indic script or Khmer based text, highland dwellers [dry rice farmers] or lowland farmers [wet rice farmers], heirarchical and non hierarchical societies, spirit beliefs and religion [Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, Taoist, animist, etc].

Travelling in Thailand

Thailand is great value; an outstandingly beautiful country; the people are warm and welcoming; it offers a multitude of outdoor activities; it’s home to wonderful ruins of ancient kingdoms as well as present day temples; the food is out of this world and Thailand has some of the finest beaches on the planet.
Chiang Mai and its surroundings is any adventure enthusiast’s playground with a huge array of activities on offer- from outstanding mountain biking and trekking to rafting and elephant riding. You can even cycle all the way to Bangkok! If Chiang Mai and the north are associated with adventure and activity then the south is with beaches and sunshine. The islands are split on either side of Thailand’s peninsular, with, amongst others, Phuket, Koh Lanta off the Andaman coast to the west and Koh Samui and Koh Pha Ngan to the east in the Gulf of Thailand.
There is of course plenty in between as well, not least the ‘City of Angels’ – Bangkok, surely one of the most vibrant city’s on the planet! So many visitors pass straight through, convinced that it offers nothing but pollution and noise. Take our advice; give it a couple of days and you’ll fall in love with the place.
In the heartland of Thailand you’ll have the opportunity to trek, explore lost kingdoms, ride elephants, walk with tigers, raft and visit, and even stay with, hill tribe people!

Retire in Thailand - Affordable Retirement in Paradise

Thailand is a favorite retirement location for many westerners and retirees from other parts of the world. Not only is it affordable but it offers so much to the adventurous soul who seeks a place to retire. Thailand has so much beauty everywhere and so many exciting places to visit.

The Most Popular Thailand Retirement Locations Are:
Bangkok
Pattaya
Phuket
Chiang Mai
South Of Thailand
.
...that's not all...Retirees also choose other locations in Thailand like: North East Thailand 'Isaan', Chiang Rai, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Khon Kaen, Hua Hin or some of the beautiful Islands in the south of Thailand.
Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao are just a few of the beautiful islands in the south of Thailand with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. If you don't want to live on an island it is nice to have the option of visiting an island for a few days or weeks.
Visiting Thailand for a longer stay before retiring in Thailand is a good way to find out if this is the Paradise for you. Some people come to Thailand for 6 moths to one year to find out if they want to retire in Thailand and find the area of Thailand they like.
There are things about Thailand that may be a little difficult for some to live with. The Thai Visa requirements are confusing but need to be understood. A foreigner can own a condominium in Thailand but not land. As a foreigner you will always be a foreigner.
Thai people treat everyone with respect yet they will always refer to you as farang -foreigner- which is not meant to insult you but it is deeply engrained in Thai people and it is the way they refer to white people.
The list of good things about Thailand is seemingly endless and outweigh the 'negative'. Thai people are one of the most sociable nations on the planet and have an extremely carefree attitude. They love to joke, have fun and eat delicious food.
So, to sum it all up: If you like to see beautiful things and places, have fun, you are laid back, you like to eat delicious and exotic dishes and you would like to have all of that for pennies on the dollar....you may want to consider Thailand as a retirement location.

How Much Money Do You Need In Thailand?
The answer is; how long is a piece of string? There are people who can live very comfortable for well under $ 1,000 a month and then you have people who think $ 5,000 is bare minimum.
There are people who pay $ 100 a month rent for an apartment and are happy and then there are people who own a one million dollar condo and are happy or still think they could have done better.

Golf Holidays In Thailand

Thailand is fast becoming a preferred destination for golf holidays and there is without a doubt that this fascinating and exotic country does provide you with a unique golf experience.
Golf courses in Thailand have excellent and modern facilities along with proper infrastructure and roads. In fact, many golf enthusiasts claim that golf holidays in Thailand are much superior to those in Europe.
This could be because there are many golf courses spread across Thailand so you will rarely find an over crowded golf course. Even in the most popular places, golf courses have sprung up and you will find each course providing you with an exclusive and special atmosphere where golf culture is undiluted by tourism.
Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Hua Hin, Khao Yai, Koh Samui, Pattaya, Phuket and River Kwai all have golf course ideally suited for different budgets. You can always create a custom golf tour package to suit your pocket, and, if necessary, you can also combine two locations.
However, you should take into account the time of the year you are planning your golf holiday in Thailand. Remember, Thailand basically has three seasons. The cool season starts from November until February. During this period, there are clear skies and the weather is highly conducive for golfing. However, this is the peak tourist season in Thailand and you would need to make reservations well in advance to get accommodation you want.
Summer in Thailand begins in March and temperatures gradually increase. April and May are hot and humid. Do remember that the Thai New Year is celebrated in May and this is the time when Thailand comes to a virtual standstill.
The rainy season in Thailand is from June until end of September. It rains most days and the weather can be highly unpredictable. During this period, there is less sunshine and this can definitely dampen your golf holiday in Thailand.
If you are looking for a budget golf holiday in Thailand then October is the month for you. During this month, the prices are still low and the tourist season has not started as yet. You can decide when to play and get bargain deals.

Rock Climbing - Thailand's The Spot

Mention Thailand and images of beaches, elephants and Bangkok come to mind. Less known is the fact Thailand rock climbing is some of the best in the world.

Rock Climbing

Located in Southeast Asia, Thailand is bordered by Cambodia, Burma and Laos in the north and Malaysia in the south. The shape of the country is somewhat similar to Italy, and you’ll find similar differences between northern and southern Thailand that you do in Italy. For rock climbing enthusiasts, the south of Thailand is where the action is.
The rock formations in Thailand are almost universally limestone. The level of climbing can be as simple as bouldering or as challenging as tackling over vertical cliffs. This makes Thailand a popular rock climbing destination since it has a little something for everyone.

Krabi

Located on the southern section of the “tail” of Thailand, Krabi has a wide variety of rock climbing challenges. Most of the climbs in this area are of the pre-bolted sport route variety. There are literally hundreds upon hundreds of climbs with difficulty levels from beginner to multi-pitch knuckle crushers.
The beauty of climbing in Krabi is…well, the beauty. While you might have visions of jungles and mosquitoes when thinking of Thailand, Krabi is an area of a different sort. Most of the climbs have been set up on cliff faces on the beach. Being natural capitalists, the Thai’s have built hotels, bars and so on at these locations. As a result, you can literally climb a multi-pitch route for five hours, cool off with a swim and then have a beer. If there is such a thing as a rock climbing heaven, many feel Krabi is it.

Before you cash in your savings, keep in mind that Thailand is a seasonal vacation spot. If you go during the wet season, there is a good chance you’ll just end up sitting around drinking beer. While that isn’t too bad, you’ll go crazy looking at the climbs that are so close, but oh so far away.
Generally, you want to head to Thailand from late November through maybe April. The summer months tend to be both incredibly hot and wet. Make sure you pull up forecasts for the area before booking a trip.
Flying to Thailand is inexpensive, but flights are incredibly long with stopovers. Still, it is all worth it once you experience Thailand rock climbing.

Rivers Of Thailand

The major river of Thailand is the Chao Phraya. It has low alluvial soil which marks the plains of Thailand. Chao Phraya originates from the meeting point of two other rivers Ping and Nan. The main tributary to Nan River is the Yom River.
Wang River is another river which flows in northern Thailand and this is 335 miles long. It originates from Ping River.
The longest river in Thailand is the Chi River which is 765 km but the water flow is very low. It runs through the Yasothon province of Thailand.
Chao Phraya runs for 372 km from Bangkok to the Gulf of Thailand. It bifurcates into two in a place called Chainat. The main portion of the river, known as the Chin River, flows parallel to Chao Phraya and ends in the Gulf. It is called by many names. In Chainat, it is called Makhamthao river and when it passes through Suphanburi, it is called Suphan. It becomes Nakhon Chaisi river when it enters Nakhon Pathon and after that it is known as Tha Chin river when it reaches the mouth of Samut Sakhon. Many canals are diverted from Chin River and the water from the canals is used for irrigation.
Nonthaburi, Uthai Thani, Singburi, Nakhon Sawan, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya and Chainat Pathum Thani are the cities along the flowing river. Nakhon Sawan is the city where the two major rivers Nan and Ping meet. Ang Thong is an agricultural land and Chao Phraya and Noi River meet in this city.

Thailand At a Glance

Thailand, originally called Siam, is situated in the center of Southeast Asia. It covers an approximate area of 5,133,115 square kilometers. It is geographically divided into two areas, the large expanse in the north and the comparatively smaller peninsular portion in the South. The country is bordered by Burma on the west, Laos on the north and east, Cambodia on the southeast and the Gulf of Thailand on the south.

People of Thailand

Several stories revolve around the origin of Thai people. Some say they came from China. Others believe that they came from Vietnam. Wherever they came from, there is an undeniable influence of Chinese culture over their lives. There is also a blend of other cultures arising from various dynasties and clans, such as Mon and Burmese people from the west, Javanese from the south, and Khmer from the east. In addition, there was a tinge of Indian influence as well. So armed with a blend of various cultures, it has developed a culture, which is unique to Thailand yet faintly reminiscent of other cultures.

Religion of Thailand

Buddhism is the basis of religion and spirituality of Thailand. The country is dotted with numerous Buddhist temples.

Culture and Art of Thailand

To appreciate the art of Thailand, one should look at the beautifully sculptured images of Buddha in temples. The temples also reflect the typical Thai architectural style as indicated by the multiple-structured temple compounds. The temple and the idols are adorned with ornaments gilded and embedded with glass mosaic, gold leaf, mother of pearl, and so on.
Traditional Thai music bears a lot of resemblance to Laos and Cambodia musical forms. Phi Phat, Kruang Sai, and Mahori are the major orchestral types that played in theaters, village festivals and by solo vocalists.

Eco-Tourism In Thailand

Eco-tourism has become popular all over the world with people demanding that countries do more to preserve nature and environment. Thailand is not far behind in eco-tourism and many activities popular in Thailand fall under that category.
Thailand is very popular with tourists looking for adventure in the wilderness, and is mainly because of the abundance of natural resources that Thailand has to offer its visitors. Mountain biking, whitewater rafting, camping and trekking, scuba diving, bird watching and rock climbing have become the done thing in natural tourist areas. All these activities are available all over Thailand, especially in the south, west and the mountainous regions of the north. The most popular of all these activities being offered to tourists are trekking, bird watching, scuba diving and mountain biking.
The government and private organizations are making sure that there are many back-to-nature activities for eco-tourism seekers. Most national parks in Thailand come under the purview of the Royal Forest Department and they have trekking trails for nature lovers. Many camping sites are also present in these national parks.
Neither trekking nor camping is a new activity in Thailand. They have been present for decades. However, eco-tourism has ensured that the activities are better managed now than before. Thailand is paying more attention to preserving its natural resources as it has come to realize that the tourists will come as long as the natural resources are unspoilt and off-the-beaten areas are better equipped to cater to tourists without disturbing the environment and the natural flora and fauna.

History Of Thailand

Thailand’s history is enticing as well as fascinating. Delving deep into the history will help you to understand how culture, religion, and people have evolved in Thailand over a period of time.
Due to lack of any proper written records, many contemplate on the kind of culture that was prevalent in Thailand before the Christian period. However, according to archeological evidences, there were traces of life in the north of Nakorn Ratchasima around 4000 years ago. It is said that people practicing agriculture settled in areas of southern Thailand during 6th century AD. The religion of Buddhism that is now practiced by the Thais came into the picture around 3rd century BC when missionaries from India were sent to regions like Burma and Thailand to spread the learning’s of Buddha.
The 11th, 12th, and 13th centuries of Thailand were quite eventful periods. During the 11th century, came the Dvaravati period, which soon collapsed with the invasion of Khmers. Around 12th and 13th century, the Khmers toppled and the Sukhotai kingdom gained independence. The 14th and the 15th centuries were marked with the powerful emergence of the Thai kings of Ayuthaya.
A series of incidents ensued during which Burma tried to capture Thailand but the Thais were able to recover from the attacks. In 1782, Rama I became the king of Thailand and this marked the beginning of the Chakri dynasty. During his era, Bangkok was made the capital of Thailand. He was succeeded by his descendants who were largely responsible for encouraging trade relations with neighboring countries such as China. Others made progressive reforms such as modernization of the legal and administrative systems and the construction of railways. Another descendant made further reforms by making education compulsory in the country. A series of succession followed ultimately leading to the reign of the king who was the ruler of Thailand until the sudden coup occurred in September 2006.

Thriving Thailand

Thailand has done extremely well on the economic and industrial front. Be it export business, industries, energy, agriculture, services, or telecommunications, Thailand is not lagging far behind other countries.
Thailand’s economy is booming and is largely due to its export business of rice and agricultural products. Other products that are exported and contribute to the country’s GDP are tin, textiles, fish products, tapioca, jewelry, gemstones, computer, and electronic appliances. Industries and services contribute 32 percent and 48 percent respectively to the country’s economy while agriculture contributes around 13 percent.
The capital of Thailand, Bangkok is noted for its gemstones and beautiful gold and silver jewelry.
Thailand has also kept pace with the Technology age and has shown a lot of progress in the field of computers and electronics. One of the projects undertaken is was that of Bangkok’s international airport and now it has been completed successfully. The airport sports two runways and several parking lots for airbuses and aircrafts. This will add more fuel to the booming tourism industry in Thailand. Tourism is an important contributing factor to Thailand’s economy.
In the retail sector, Thailand is thriving as well. Mega projects such as development of sprawling shopping malls are in the pipeline. Several foreign companies have invested in the retail business there.
The telecommunications sector has undergone many changes. The most important change was the privatization of a couple of state telecom agencies. Another major change was marked by the removal of phone locks and usage of Mobile Equipment Identity (IEMI) codes by service operators.

About Thailand

The Kingdom of Thailand lies in the heart of Southeast Asia. With its alluring combination of natural beauty, inspiring temples, warm hospitality and infamous cuisine making Thailand a favorite for many visitors from all around the world.
The kingdom was established in the mid-14th century. Known as Siam until 1939 before the name was changed to Thailand which means Land Of The Free. Thailand is the only Southeast Asian country that has never been colonized by a European country. Divided into 6 regions, North, North-East, Central, East, West, and South and comprised 76 provinces with Bangkok (means City Of Angels) as its capital city. A bloodless revolution in 1932 led to a constitutional monarchy with His Majesty King Bhumibol or Rama IX, the ninth king of the Chakri Dynasty as the present Head Of State. In 2006, Thailand is celebrating the 60th anniversary of HM King Bhumibol’s accession to the Throne. HM King Bhumibol is the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history and has for some time been the world’s longest-reigning incumbent monarch.
With its proud history, tropical climate, lush mountains and forests, long stretched beaches and islands, tranquil villages and exciting nightlife, Thailand offers something for every kind of travelers.

Knowing Thailand

Bordered by Laos and Cambodia in the east, the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia in the South, and Andaman Sea and Myanmar to the west, lies the beautiful and scenic place, Thailand.
Originally, the country was known as Siam. If you have seen the famous movie, King and I, starring Yul Bryner as the king of Siam, you will be certainly having some idea about this beautiful place.
Thai means freedom and hence the name, Thailand. Thai also symbolizes the name of the city’s ethnic group. Thailand is well known for having the perfect blend of cultures of India and China. This influence has been possible due to its geographic location. The country is also proud of various indigenous cultures since the time of Ban Chiang culture.
Thailand has a rich historical background. Sukhothai, a buddhist kingdom was the first Thai state. It was established in 1238, after the fall of the Khmer empire. However, Sukhotai was soon overpowered by Ayutthaya, which was more powerful and larger than Sukhotai. It was founded in 1431. The next kingdom that rose to power after Ayutthaya was Thonburi, the capital of Thailand. It was the capital for only a short period of time.
Then came the era of Ratthanakosin leading later to the establishment of Bangkok as the capital of Thailand. Despite so many transitions, Thailand is the only Southeast Asian culture that was never affected or empowered by the European power. This was because Thailand had a series of efficient rulers during the period, 1800 who amply took advantage of the undercurrent or tension between British and the French.

Things to See in Thailand

Thailand has long been a popular tourist destination. Cheap, navigable, family friendly, and with a range of activities, it is easy to see why it is so popular. With the world economy shrinking, Thailand has become an even better choice to visit. Hotel prices have been cut and flights have become cheaper. If that wasn't enough of a reason, here are some others:
Thailand has some of the best beaches in the world. Whether you want empty beaches or lush resorts, Thailand has an island for you. You can choose between Phuket, a popular family destination, Ko Phang Nagn, a popular destination with backpackers, or Ko Lipe, an out of the way destination in the south of Thailand. No matter where you go, you will find wide white sand beaches, crystal clear diving, cheap accommodation, amazing seafood, and great diving.
If beaches and diving aren't interesting to you, Thailand a a variety of other activities for you. There are many historical sites such as Sukkotthai, Lopburi, and Ayutthaya There you can see the old capitals of the Thai Empire. and some stunning Khmer influence architecture.
Keep heading north for lush jungles, hill tribes, and river rafting expeditions. Up north in Chiang Mai you will also find some of the best shopping in all of Thailand at the Chiang Mai night market. Chiang Mai also boasts some amazing temples and is one of the centers of Buddhism in the country. If you head a little further north to Chiang Rai, you can use this city as a base to explore the wild and undeveloped north.
However, the best part of Thailand is its beaches and any trip to the country requires spending a lot of time at one of its many islands. With so many islands, there is bound to be one that suits your travel style. The lesser known and touristed islands such as Ko Lipe, offer travelers cheaper accommodation, more authentic interaction with the locals, better diving, and less crowds to share the beaches with. Most people come here for the sun and there is good reason to. Whatever your reason to come here, you will have a great time with so many available choices.

Matt loves Thailand and has been living in the country for two years. He has seen it all and still loves the beaches the most. His favorite thing to do in Thailand is Travel Ko Lipe.

The climate of Thailand is tropical. However, Thailand is developing and industrialization is taking place resulting in a lot of people migrating from rural areas to cities.
The Thai language is similar to Tai, the language spoken by the people who live in Southern China. This has led to a belief that the Thai originally came from southern China before migrating to South East Asia in the 6th or 7th century. Until 1938, Thailand was called Siam. It has a very close relationship with United Kingdom which signed the Treaty of Amity and Commerce in 1938 with Thailand and ended up being the first time that this country was recognized by a western power.

Thailand - The Land of Smiles and Cheap Travel

Thailand is known as the land of smiles, which is amazing considering the traffic jams in Bangkok. For budget travelers, Thailand simply can’t beat on price alone.
Thailand
Thailand is an odd mix of contrasts. It can be extremely stressful while trying to get around in Bangkok and gloriously relaxing while laying on practically any of the beaches that populate the coast of the country. Regardless of the situation, the Thais have a habit and custom or smiling regardless of what you ask or how you ask it.
Beaches
The beaches of Thailand need no introduction. Used as the setting for hundreds of movies, they come in a variety of styles. The beaches of Phuket and Phi Phi fall along the lines of traditional beach resort areas like you might find in a place such as Cancun, Mexico or Tamarindo, Costa Rica. On the other end of the scale, you can find more rustic beach areas in places like the island of Ko Chang where you’ll have a few beach bungalows, a couple of bars and one or two stores. If you’re looking for a little of both styles, just ask around.
Da North
Infatuated with the beach life, many people fail to head up country when in Thailand. This is a mistake as the north is the host to such locations as the city of Chang Mai, the Summer Palace of the King of Thailand and interesting little villages. For the outdoor enthusiasts, rafting, hiking and mountain biking are very popular and widely available.
Prices
If you’re on a budget, Thailand is a perfect travel destination. For some reason, flights to Thailand are particularly cheap with my recent flight on Korean Airlines running roughly $650 round trip. Once in country, your money will go a long, long way.
I think a note of caution is need at this point. Please beware. If you decide to take a trip to Thailand, you won’t want to come back to your native country. You will, however, definitely come back to Thailand!

The Kingdom of Thailand

Why are so many people fascinated from this kingdom? Maybe because it was never colonized by the Europeans and therefore remained original and unique without the dominating influence of European culture or language (colonialism). Speaking in geographical terms Thailand's surface area makes a large part of South East Asia. Its territory extends from the Himalaya foothill to the Malayan peninsula, also embracing the Golf of Thailand. If people see this on a map Thailand's territory often reminds them of an elephant's feature. Altogether Thailand has a surface are of about 513.000 square kilometers.
But surely it is not the elephant's shape on the map which influences so many people to travel to Thailand. The northern part of the kingdom is very hilly. There you have a very dry climate in summer and people who live there a very poor since agriculture is nearly impossible due to the lack of rain. But the central part and south east coast of Thailand are completely different. Here you have a humid climate because of the Golf of Thailand which surrounds this part of the country. The average temperature is about 18° Celsius.
When tourists decide to travel to Thailand they will not think about the seasons of the year but check how many rain there is for example from June to September when it's monsoon time. In the months before monsoon there are the highest temperatures of the year - quite often around 40° Celsius. So when you like cooler temperatures and not so many rain you should decide to travel between November and February.
Now what can you see in Thailand? It's a very colourful country. First of all you have the impressive capital Bangkok (the Thais call it Krung Trep) with its fascinating mixture of tradition and modernism. No problem to walk the streets of Bankgok and see a Buddhist monk talking with his mobile.

Thailand as a Tour Destination

Thinking of Thailand as a tour destination? Think exotic, oriental, majestic and more!
Thailand’s boundaries stretch to neighboring regions of Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia, the Gulf of Thailand and the Indian Ocean. The exciting Eastern city of Thailand offers immense scope for sea, air and road travel, dependent on a tourist’s budget. Its four main regions, namely North, Central Plain or the Chao Phraya River Basin, North East (Korat Plateau) and South Peninsula live up to the true meaning of ‘thai,’ literally meaning free and denoting the same in its multicultural diversity that happily coexists with its diverse inhabitants.
Agriculturally rich, with paddy fields dotted landscape that make room for heritage palaces and famous temples alike, modern Thailand comes as a pleasant surprise for the global traveler: natural beauty of many beaches and islands, innumerable shopping bargains and vibrant festivities of carnivals and shopping centers that offer wide variety in local foods and gourmet cuisine, exotic hill - tribe villages and ancient ruins all contribute to Thailand’s cosmopolitan air as a tour destination.
Thailand as a tour destination: its many exciting activities and pleasures. Buddhism is the main religion in Thailand with the King of Thailand revered as the supreme monarch and also the patron of all religions embraced by the people. Thus, Thailand has religious tolerance woven into its social fabric and respects people of all races. This multiculturalism makes Thailand a hot favorite as a tour destination for the global traveler with add-on visits to nearby cities like Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Butterworth and other major southern Thai towns being part of an avid tourist’s list. Places of tourist interest in Thailand include Phuket, Koh Samui, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Krabi, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Koh Chang and Koh Samet while provinces like Krabi, Koh Libong, Koh Hai provides great photographic memoirs of Thailand as a tour destination.
